A fictional Philadelphia team’s rocky road to the Super Bowl is the backdrop for a suspense novel by first-time Wilmington, Del. author Bob Yearick.
Sawyer focuses on Ed Sawyer, All-Pro offensive tackle for the Philadelphia Stars, who discovers that one or more players on his NFC-leading team are doing steroids and shaving points. The Stars’ owner seeks Sawyer’s help in finding the point-shavers without upsetting team chemistry. Through an at-first uneasy alliance with Philadelphia Daily News sports columnist Christine Atherton, Sawyer discovers that his best friend is among the cheaters. As he and Christine grow closer, the danger to them and Sawyer’s son and father ratchets up to a deadly level.
Delaware crime novelist Ed Dee calls the book "a fascinating and intelligent look inside a troubled pro football team," and characterizes Sawyer as "a new American hero."
A free-lance writer, Yearick is a frequent contributor to Delaware Today magazine and serves as a consultant to DuPont Performance Coatings and as contributing editor of Out & About Magazine, a monthly Wilmington monthly. Steve Cobb, a Wilmington artist and designer, created the cover art for Sawyer.
The book, published by Bay Oak Publishers of Dover, Del. is available on Amazon, or it can be ordered through the Bay Oak website -- www.bayoakpublishers.com -- or by contacting Yearick at allwriter@comcast.net. The price is $14.95 plus $2 shipping.
